Terms of Service

Last updated: 17 September 2026

1. Who these terms are between

These terms are between you and Thomas Waye trading as GafferPay ("GafferPay", "we", "us"). By creating an account or using GafferPay, you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, please don't use the service.

2. What GafferPay is

GafferPay is an invoicing tool for UK tradespeople: create and send professional invoices, let customers pay online by card or bank transfer, and automatically chase overdue payments. It's offered on a Free plan (limited to 3 invoices/month) and a paid Pro plan (unlimited invoices, online payments, automated reminders), billed monthly via Stripe.

3. Your account

  • You must provide accurate information about yourself and your business.
  • You're responsible for keeping your login details secure and for all activity on your account.
  • Each GafferPay account represents one business — it isn't designed for multiple separate businesses sharing a login.
  • You must be legally able to enter into a contract, and using GafferPay to invoice must itself be lawful for your line of work.

4. Subscriptions and billing

  • The Free plan is limited to 3 invoices created per calendar month; Pro removes that limit and unlocks online payments and automated reminders.
  • Pro is billed monthly in advance via Stripe. You can upgrade, downgrade, or cancel at any time through the billing portal linked from Settings.
  • Cancelling stops future billing; we don't provide refunds for the unused portion of a billing period unless required by law.
  • We may change our pricing with reasonable notice; continuing to use a paid plan after a price change takes effect means you accept the new price.

5. Payments from your customers

This is the most important section to understand: GafferPay is not a bank, does not hold your money, and is never a party to the payment between you and your customer. When a customer pays a GafferPay invoice by card, that payment is processed by Stripe and paid out directly to your own Stripe-connected bank account — it never passes through an account we control. Your relationship with Stripe for receiving payments is governed by Stripe's own Connected Account Agreement, separately from these terms. Disputes about whether a customer's payment was received and chargebacks are matters for you and Stripe to resolve — GafferPay isn't able to intervene in or reverse those. As a convenience, you can initiate a full refund of a card payment from within GafferPay; doing so simply instructs Stripe to reverse the payment on your own connected account — GafferPay never holds or moves the funds itself.

Bank transfer details you display on your invoices are exactly that — details you've provided for display. We have no visibility into, and no responsibility for, payments made by bank transfer outside Stripe.

6. Acceptable use

You agree not to use GafferPay to:

  • send invoices for goods or services you haven't actually provided, or that are otherwise fraudulent
  • invoice for anything illegal
  • attempt to disrupt, reverse-engineer, or gain unauthorised access to the service
  • use the platform to harass or spam anyone

We may suspend or terminate accounts that breach this.

7. Your data and content

You own the customer, invoice, and business data you put into GafferPay. You give us permission to process it solely to provide the service to you (sending your invoices, calculating totals, sending reminders, etc.) — see our Privacy Policy for how that works. You're responsible for having the right to enter your customers' personal details into the platform and for your own obligations to them as the data controller.

8. Service availability

We aim to keep GafferPay available and working correctly, but it's provided "as is" without a guaranteed uptime at this stage. We may need to take the service down temporarily for maintenance, and we'll try to keep any disruption brief.

9. Liability

Nothing in these terms limits liability for things the law doesn't allow us to limit (like fraud, or death or personal injury caused by our negligence). Beyond that, GafferPay's liability to you for any claim relating to the service is limited to the amount you've paid us in subscription fees in the 12 months before the claim. We're not liable for indirect or consequential losses, or for payment disputes between you and your customers, or between you and Stripe (see section 5).

10. Ending your account

You can stop using GafferPay and ask us to delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate an account that breaches these terms, with notice where reasonably possible. On termination, we'll retain data only as described in our Privacy Policy's data-retention section.

11. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. If we make a material change, we'll update the date above and, where appropriate, let you know directly. Continuing to use GafferPay after a change takes effect means you accept the updated terms.

12. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales.
